Women and Power

Throughout history men have been portrayed with symbols of power such as weapons or shining armour. The ‘Armed with Beauty’ exhibition is about the – less visible – power (through diplomacy, social networks, marriage, female beauty, etcetera) of women since the Middle Ages. Famous historical women from the Benelux such as Mary of Burgandy and Aletta Jacobs (the fi rst female doctor), are brought to life with historical artefacts, fashion, jewellery, paintings and photos. If you aren’t drawn to this concept a visit it still worthwhile: the Muiderslot Castle is a Dutch monument, built in 1285, that can be explored as well.
