The Scheepvaartmuseum in Amsterdam presents it's first photo exhibition: The Ultimate Sailor: Under Construction. Dutch contemporary photographers Koen Hauser, Jan Hoek, Marie-José Jongerius and Aisha Zeijpveld have examined the romantic, stereotypical and sometimes caricatured image we have of The Sailor. They reflected on what role the image of The Sailor plays in today's society.

The stereotypical and sometimes caricatured image we have of sailors has been reflected for centuries in our stories, plays, prints, and paintings. Het Scheepvaartmuseum has many collection pieces that illustrate this clichéd image, even though the profession and indeed the role of the sailor has changed drastically over the centuries.
If you are as fond of that romantic image of sailors as we are, we suggest to make sure you go and visit this exhibition.
